Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) with its basic objective of promoting higher education through Open and Distance learning is making lot of efforts to reach out the unreached. The system of student support service of the University is very strong connecting its learners to a larger number of learner support centres across the country and abroad. Being the apex body for maintaining the quality education, the University uses the information and communication technology in a big way for its teaching-learning process.

Apart from the supply of quality self-instructional study material to the learners conduct of classes through teleconferencing, EDUSAT (via satellite), Gyan Vani (FM Radio), Gyan Darsan (TV channels) etc are some of the features of IGNOU. Degrees and diplomas awarded by the University are recognized by statutory bodies concerned and other Government departments for the purpose of higher education and employment purposes.

IGNOU Regional Centre, Cochin has a network of 96 learner support centres across the State of Kerala and Lakshadweep. The centre has got a team of committed full time staff members appointed at the Regional centre and part-time co-ordinators and part time staff at the learner centres to provide student support service.
